NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Rotary Club will honor Paul and Lisa Fitzpatrick with its highest award.

The club will present the Fitzpatricks with the Paul Harris Award during the annual Paul Harris Dinner Nov. 16.

The Fitzpatricks are being honored for their efforts to help the Connecticut Children Medical Center through their organization, Theresa’s Battleship Foundation. The organization was created after the Fitzpatricks’ daughter, Theresa, passed away following a battle with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

Club President Cathie Mauritz said the Fitzpatricks were able to take a tragedy and turn it into something positive.

“They started their own foundation called Theresa’s Battleship and they raise money for children’s cancer research,” Mauritz said. “It was their commitment to children that has made a difference.”

The Paul Harris Award is named for the original founder of the Rotary Club. It is given out each year to someone who has given their time and talents to the community of Naugatuck.

According to Mauritz, anyone who is considered for the award has to personify the club’s code, which is four questions, known as the “four-way test.” The questions are: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

“Not only do the Fitzpatricks fit each of the questions, they exceed everything,” Mauritz said.

The dinner is at the Crystal Room, 98 School St., and starts at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are $40. For more information, contact Kim Ostuno at 203-720-3846 or kostuno@sarracco.com.
