NAUGATUCK — Police have charged two girls in connection with “creepy clown” posts on social media that mentioned Naugatuck schools.

The Instagram posts were discovered Monday night. In one post, someone using the name “Jackson the Clown” wrote “Will be in Naugatuck (lollipop emoji) Be careful (suspicious eyes emoji) lock your doors (crying/laughing face emoji) Which school want to go first? (pondering face emoji).”

Police said the girls, who are both under the age of 14, created the account and made the post Monday. The post, along with a second similar post involving clowns, led to a heighten police presence at schools in Naugatuck on Tuesday.

The name of the girls weren’t released by police due to their age. One of the girls is from Naugatuck and the other is from Stratford, police said.

Both girls were charged with disorderly conduct and conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct.

The investigation remains open. Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at 203-720-1010.
