NAUGATUCK — Elisa (Pereira) Esteves, 88, wife of Joaquim Esteves, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Esteves was born in Portugal on Dec. 27, 1927, daughter of the late Antonio and Ana Maria (Ferreira) Pereira. She came to the United States in 1974 and settled in Naugatuck. Elisa retired from St. Mary’s Hospital after 18 years of service. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Besides her loving husband of 63 years, Eliza leaves her sons, John Esteves of Naugatuck, Almiro Esteves of Milldale, and Antonio Esteves of Prospect; her daughters, Gloria Gomes of Portugal, Aurora Fernandes of Naugatuck, and Helena Zupa of Oxford; her 13 grandchildren, her five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Fernando Esteves.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
