NAUGATUCK — Donald Walter Fellows, Jr., of Naugatuck, passed away on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016.
Mr. Fellows was born on July 2, 1940 in Waterbury, a son of the late Donald W. Fellows and Agnes S. Fellows, both formerly of Naugatuck. Don grew up in Naugatuck, participated in the Naugatuck sports programs and attended Naugatuck High School. He joined the United States Navy and was a Seabee. During his years of service he traveled to Antarctica and Grand Turks building U.S. Navy sites. He returned from the Navy and began his career as a diesel mechanic/welder for Local 478, Operating Engineers. Subsequently he owned and operated Don Fellows Repair, which specialized in heavy equipment repair.
While spending most of his life in Naugatuck, Mr. Fellows also resided for a long period in Northfield, where he enjoyed rural living and taking many walks in the woods. He was mechanically gifted and could disassemble and reassemble anything. As a classic car lover, he enjoyed tinkering with cars in his garage and attending car shows. Don was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #640 in Naugatuck. Don was generous with his time to friends and to anyone in need of help.
The family would like to thank Don’s neighbors, the Mallane’s, and the staff at Waterbury Gardens for the kindness.
Don leaves behind his proudest achievement, his two sons, Donald W. Fellows, III of Watertown and Christopher W. Fellows of Boston; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Fellows of Watertown; his two grandchildren, Amy Fellows and Kyle Fellows; his sister, Audrey Gendron of Oxford; his brother, Robert Fellows of Naugatuck; his former wife and close friend, Mary Fellows of Lakeville and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
