SOUTBURY — Alyce (Van Der Maelen) Erickson, of Southbury, passed away peacefully on Sept. 21, 2016. Alyce was born Feb. 1, 1922 to Benjamin and Katherine Van Der Maelen in East Haven. She was predeceased by Ernest C. Erickson, her husband of 55 years.

Alyce was blessed with a wonderful family, Bradford and Ingrid Erickson of Watertown, Matthew and Donna Erickson of Naugatuck, Shane and Mary-Jane Erickson of Naugatuck, and Sharleen and Lawrence P. Bowen, M.D. of Barrington R.I. She also leaves her sister, Helen Raudat of Killingworth. Affectionately known as “Mimi,” she leaves nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Alyce and Ernie resided in Naugatuck for 44 years until retirement. She was a pioneer woman in real estate, opening her own real estate firm in Naugatuck in the 1970’s with encouragement and support from Ernie.

Alyce lived life to the fullest, enjoyed traveling, spending many years wintering in Barbados and summering at Green Hill Beach in South Kingston, R.I. She was a member of the Lake Quassapaug Yacht Club, the Green Hill Beach Club and the Westerly Yacht Club. Alyce was past president of many organizations including the Naugatuck Women’s Club, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Connecticut, the Greater Waterbury Realtors and the Connecticut Association of Realtors. She will be remembered as successful, stylish lady, known for her extensive hat collection and sense of fun.

There will be a private service at the convenience of the family. Alyce will return to Ernie’s side at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, R.I.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library, Naugatuck, and The Cross Mills Public Library, Charlestown, R.I.
