NAUGATUCK — A 37-year-old Naugatuck man was arrested Wednesday after police say he deposited crack-cocaine with cash at an ATM in June.

Police said Termane Smith, 37, of 39 School St., tried to deposit cash June 21 in the ATM at the Bank of America branch on Church Street. The ATM jammed during the deposit, police said, and Smith left without notifying the bank of the issue.

A repairman opened the ATM to fix it and found a small plastic bag with what was later determined to by crack-cocaine stuck to the money that Smith tried to deposit, according to police. Using footage from a surveillance camera on the ATM and deposit information from the attempted transaction, officers tracked the crack-cocaine back to Smith, police said.

Smith was charged with possession of crack-cocaine and nonstudent with drugs near school or high school grounds or daycare. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 14.
