NAUGATUCK — A Waterbury man was arrested Saturday morning after police say he fired multiple gunshots at a home on Rubber Avenue following a domestic dispute.

At about 5:45 a.m. Joselito Santiago, 26, attempted to break down the door to the house at 527 Rubber Ave. where his eight-year-old child and the child’s mother lives, according to police. Santiago wasn’t able to gain access to the house. Before fleeing the scene, police said, he fired multiple shots from a handgun at the house.

There were several people in the house at the time, police said. No one was injured.

Santiago, of 198 Wolcott St., Waterbury, was located and taken into custody a short time later in Waterbury by Waterbury police.

Witnesses gave conflicting reports on the number of shots fired, Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said. Information on the type of handgun used wasn’t readily available Monday morning.

Cammarata said the incident remains under investigation. Naugatuck police are working with state police on the investigation, he said.

Santiago was charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, attempt to commit at home invasion, attempt to commit first-degree burglary, first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to child, second-degree criminal mischief, unlawful discharge of firearms, alteration of firearm identification mark, number or name, carrying of pistol or revolver without permit and weapons in vehicles.

He was held on a $1 million bond and scheduled to appear this morning in Waterbury Superior Court.
