Mrs. Marie N. (Continello) Tortora, 101, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Beacon Brook Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Benjamin F. Tortora.
Mrs. Tortora was born on July 25, 1915 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Raphael M. and Sarah J. (Minicucci) Continello. Marie was a graduate of Wilby High School and worked as a manager for Wolfe’s Bakery for over 20 years. She was a past member of the Emblem Club and enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Joyce Lucarelli and her husband, John, Jr., of Waterbury and Pamela Graver and her husband, Thomas, of Florida; her six grandchildren, John Lucarelli, III, Jill Donnelly, Jay Lucarelli, Jodi Correa, David Graver, and Scott Graver; and her five great-grandchildren, Kara Donnelly, Payten Donnelly, Gianna Lucarelli, Dominic Lucarelli, and Eva Marie Correa. She also leaves her brother, Edmond Continello; and her sister,s Rita Cerbasie and Lola “Helen” LaBelle as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.
Marie’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Beacon Brook, especially the staff in the Valley View wing for their outstanding and compassionate care shown to Marie during her years there.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 S. Main St., Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Maiorano Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements.
