NAUGATUCK — Frances Annette (Mariano) Chester, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2016 at Beacon Brook Health Center after a short illness. Frances was the former wife of Anthony Chester for 25 years.

Frances was born on March 18, 1929 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Mariano, and had lived in Naugatuck for most of her life. She attended local schools and graduated from Naugatuck High School and from the Waterbury School of Nursing. Frances worked in Waterbury Hospital but found her calling in private duty nursing, where she brought outstanding care and warmth to her patients for many years. After retiring, Frances enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; going to tag sales; doing crossword puzzles and occasional trips to Mohegan Sun Casino. She also got great pleasure dog sitting for her “grand dogs” April, Eddie, Yagar, Cara and Bravo.

Frances is survived by her two daughters, Fran White (Phil) of Prospect and Karen Mariani (David) of Watertown and her two special, loving grandchildren, Lucy and Colin Mariani as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances was predeceased by her former husband, Anthony Chester, and her four brothers, Frank, Anthony, John and Bill, and her sister, Angie.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all the staff at Beacon Brook for their compassion, care and friendship.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 29, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Relatives and friends are asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
