NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Historical Society has launched a new contest and outreach program rolled into one.

The society has placed “Jugseums,” clear plastic containers that showcase three images from the society’s photo collection, on the counters of local businesses. Those who want to enter the scavenger-hunt style contest are asked to locate as many of Jugseums as possible. Donations to the historical society will also be collected in the Jugseums.

Contestants must write the location of the businesses where they found the Jugseums. After locating many Jugseums as possible, contestants can deliver their list to the society’s office, 171 Church St., or mail it to: Naugatuck Historical Society, Box 317, Naugatuck, CT, 06770. Entries must be received on or by Sept. 30.

The person with the most Jugseums will win prizes, including a year’s membership in the historical society. In case of a tie, the winner’s name will be drawn from all of the entries correctly listing the highest number of sites.

People are also encouraged to stop by the office on Church Street on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. if they want to learn more about the images in the Jugseums.
