BEACON FALLS — Voters unanimously approved the transfer of $30,750 during a town meeting Monday night.

The money was transferred from the contingency fund to settle the workers’ compensation account.

The shortfall in the workers’ compensation account goes back to when the town was crafting the 2015-16 municipal budget.

The town knew the increase was coming and had originally crafted the budget with a smaller increase, First Selectman Christopher Bielik said. However, when the final figure was in, the increase was larger than expected.

This year the town joined the Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency, which provides municipal risk financing and risk management, for a significant decrease in cost. Bielik said the town is paying approximately $42,000 less than it had planned for in the current budget.
