BEACON FALLS — The Board of Selectmen set the wheels in motion to formalize a Community Center Building Committee.

The board discussed forming the committee, which would look into the possibility of building a joint library and community center on the town-owned property on 35 Wolfe Ave., at its meeting this month.

The Beacon Falls Library requested $39,000 be put in the 2016-17 municipal budget for architectural drawings for the new building. The Board of Finance chose not to fund the request because it felt it was premature. Instead, the board put $1,000 in the budget to fund a clerk for a building committee.

The Beacon Falls Library Board of Trustees voted in May to formally request that the Board of Selectmen convene a building committee.

First Selectman Christopher Bielik said the committee will likely have seven members. The board is expected to formalize the committee, appoint people, and set the committee’s charge during its July meeting.

Residents Ed Groth and Doug Bousquet, who served on the previous building committee, have expressed interest in being on the new committee.

  1. Cut your losses. Sell the property it was always a looser.
Take the six million your gonna spend and fix the roads. Something everybody uses.
The library is fine the way it is.
    Community center for what?
Use the firehouse or senior center both town owned buildings.
