PROSPECT — A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Saturday to officially open Region 16’s new district office.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the office, 30 Coer Road. The public can tour the new office immediately following the ceremony.

The new office for the region, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, is the last and smallest piece of a three-part building project that included the new Prospect Elementary School and renovations to Laurel Ledge Elementary School in Beacon Falls. Voters approved bonding up to $47.5 million for the project in December 2011.

The district, which is moving out of office space it rents on New Haven Road in Prospect, received the certificate of occupancy for the office in late March.

The one-floor office sits where the former Algonquin School once stood on Coer Road. Algonquin School, with the exception of the annex, was demolished to make way for the new 6,600-square-foot office. The annex will be used for storage and an office for maintenance staff.
