REGION 16 — The Region 16 Board of Education this month appointed Jennifer Stewart as the assistant director of special education.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Jennifer and are confident that she will become an invaluable member of our educational community,” the board stated in a press release.

Stewart holds a regular education and special education teaching certification, K-6 elementary education and K-12 special education, the release stated. She received her administrative certification from Southern Connecticut State University and has performed in an administrative capacity since 2014 in the Trumbull School System. She has 16 years of experience in education.

“Her experience as both a regular education teacher and special education will serve our region well and support our efforts to collectively and collaboratively drive programmatic issues in special education, increase the achievement of our identified population, and increase parent satisfaction with our special education services,” the board stated in the release.

Stewart will start in the district, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, on July 1. Her salary will be $110,670.
