Carmen Irene Scinto, beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Jun. 23, 2016.

Carmen’s parents, Irene Rodriguez Gelpi and Federico Rodriguez Trelles, emigrated to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Spain. A graduate of Notre Dame of Maryland University, Carmen returned to San Juan where she taught elementary school. It was there that she met Frank J. Scinto on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. Uncertain whether or not to go, she went on the date with her mother’s encouragement “it’s not like you’re going to marry the guy.” Carmen and Frank were married more than 60 years. Frank was an executive with The Upjohn Corporation and early in their marriage, they followed Frank’s work, living in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Michigan and Panama before returning to Frank’s home state of Connecticut where they lived in Trumbull for nearly 45 years. They were blessed with life abundant, including three sons and seven grandchildren along the way.

Carmen loved and served the Lord with all her heart and served her family and friends out of the grace and mercy that she had received. She was our mother, our caregiver, our provider, our teacher and our friend. Through later years, she held firmly to one truth; “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Carmen was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank; her mother, Irene; her father, Federico; and three brothers, Luis, Fico and Sergio. She is survived by three sons, Frank Scinto and his wife Patrice of Cheshire along with their children, Luke, Jake and Kaylee; Fred Scinto and his wife Diane of Naugatuck, along with their children, Steven and Michelle; Joe Scinto and his wife Marie of Woodbury, along with their children, Michael and Julia-Louise. They along with her many nieces and nephews will miss her and with gratitude to God for her life and sorrow for our present loss, we rejoice that our grief is temporary and her eternal life is assured (1 Thess 4:13).

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” (Pro 31:28-29)
