NAUGATUCK — A hit-and-run accident on Route 8 early Wednesday morning left three construction workers with injuries.

The accident occurred at about 2:10 a.m. in a construction zone on Route 8 north near Exit 28.

A tractor-trailer was traveling in the left lane when it entered the construction area and struck the basket of a telescoping lift vehicle that was extended over the right lane. The driver of the tractor-trailer fled the scene, state police said.

Vinicius Lima, 30, who was operating the boom lift when it was struck, and Abraham Dealmeida, 23, were transported to Waterbury Hospital with suspected minor injuries, police said.

Connecticut Department of Transportation spokesman Kevin Nursick said one of the two workers, he was not sure which, suffered slightly more moderate injuries, including a possible broken collarbone.

Nursick said a third worker, who was not listed in the police report, also suffered minor injuries.

All three were working for the Plantsville-based construction company Mohawk Northeast Inc., which is doing work on the Route 68 bridge in Naugatuck.

State police are attempting to locate the driver. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Oliver DeVre at Troop I at 203-393-4200.
