Beacon Falls man dies in Route 8 accident

WATERBURY — A 35-year-old Beacon Falls man was killed early Friday morning in a one-car accident on Route 8.

State police reported Roy J. Gruner, of 30 Andrasko Road, Beacon Falls, was driving a 2004 Kia Sedona on Route 8 south near exit 36 at about 1:30 a.m. when the car veered off the right side of the highway and crashed into a tree in the embankment. He was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Why Gruner swerved off the road is unknown at this time. The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Ouellette at 203-267-2200 ext. 4346.

The Robert A. Cole Baseball League and the Crystal Room are sponsoring a ziti dinner to benefit Gruner’s family.

The dinner is June 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Crystal Room, 98 School St., Naugatuck. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for children ages 5 and under.
