TERRYVILLE — Mary Elizabeth Gabriele, 59, wife of Brian Hatch, passed away in a fatal motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

Mary was born on July 18, 1956 in Waterbury, a daughter of Concetta “Coni” (Gallucci) Gabriele and the late Thomas Anthony Gabriele, Sr. Mary lived in Terryville for the past few years with her husband, having been a Waterbury resident for most of her life. Mary graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School after which she spent time studying music at Central Connecticut State University. Mary was an accomplished organist and soloist, having spent her career playing and singing in the churches of the Archdiocese of Hartford. Mary also made herself available to actively participate in many associated Parish activities within the Archdiocese.

Mary spent many years as an elementary school music teacher in the Waterbury Parochial School system, teaching at both Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Grammar Schools. Mary also served as the director of the Thomaston Ladies Choral Club.

In addition to her husband, Brian, and her mother, Coni, Mary is survived by her son, Jeff G. Steeves; her granddaughter, Michelina Gabriele Steeves; her sister, Donna Gabriele Stone; her brother, Thomas Anthony Gabriele, Jr., and his wife Jane Gabriele; her stepchildren, Amy Hatch, Rachel Hatch and Connor Swartz; her brother-in-law, Marcus Hatch and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Mary cherished all of her family and friends, and always demonstrated this by her willingness to share both of herself and time.

Calling hours are Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol. Anyone attending the Mass is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
