SOUTHBURY — Mrs. Margarete “Gretchen” (Hulas) Treu, 86, of Southbury, passed away Friday morning May 6, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Treu was born in Germany July 17, 1929, a daughter of the late Josef and Margarete Hilfer, and had been a Naugatuck resident for over 50 years, moving to Southbury nine years ago. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Naugatuck, and enjoyed baking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Gretchen lived a long and happy life and brought great joy to all who knew her. She particularly took great pleasure in sharing her baked goods with friends and neighbors. She will be long remembered for her kindness and generosity.
She is survived by her son, Herward “Herb” Treu and his wife Laurie of Southbury; her nephews, Michael Hulas of Brookfield, Ben Hilfer of Key West, Fla., Karl Hilfer of the Netherlands; and her niece, Rosemary Hilfer of Kentucky.
Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., followed by burial in Grove Cemetery Naugatuck. There are no calling hours.
