To the editor,

As the organizer of the 2016 WRHS Best Buddies Prom, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the businesses, organizations and residents of Region 16 and surrounding towns for their generosity.

The WRHS Best Buddies Prom tradition began in 2014 as Samantha Docchio’s senior project. My vision was to continue this wonderful tradition and create an authentic prom experience for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their peers, in a setting, they would be most safe and comfortable. The prom took place on Saturday, April 30, 70 past and present Best Buddies members attended in formal wear and wearing smiles. Our Best Buddy advisers, para’s and parents joined us and Mr. Ogren (our principal) and his wife stopped by. Buddy pairs rode in style in a handicap accessible motor coach to Lakeview Lodge at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Bethany where we were joined by other Best and Peer Buddies. The decorations created an atmosphere that was nothing short of magical. We had photographers, a photo booth, dinner, dessert and a DJ. Prom King and Queen were crowned, in addition all Buddy Pairs received crowns and tiaras. We then danced the night away.

This night was absolutely spectacular because of so many bighearted and generous businesses, organizations and people who donated monetarily, needed items and time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to give my friends in Best Buddies a night they will never forget.
