MONROE — Mr. Robert D. Cranney, 84, of Monroe, formerly of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the husband of Geraldine (Petrasy) Cranney.

Mr. Cranney was born in Waterbury, on Sept. 5, 1931 a son of the late Michael and Anna (Phalen) Cranney. He was retired from the Uniroyal Inc. Chemical Division in Naugatuck where he had worked as a chemist for 44 years and was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, member and former chairman of the Prospect Town Council, member of the Prospect Democratic Town Committee, member of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Building Committee, member of the High Rock Shooting Club and enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Cranney proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cranney is survived by a daughter, Eileen Cranney and her wife Ann Egan of Prospect; two sons, Robert D. Cranney and his wife Florence of Lancaster, S.C. and Kevin Cranney and his wife Christine of Plantsville; two stepdaughters, Debra Hansen and her husband Alan of Monroe, and Cynthia Lishawa and her husband Kevin of Ridgefield; a daughter-in-law, Janice Cranney of Wolcott; 12 grandchildren, Brent, Brian, Andrea, Thomas, Kyle, Marissa, Olivia, Jordan, Tyler, Katie, Hannah and Owen; a great-granddaughter, Ashlynn and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia (Wallace) Cranney; a son, Patrick Cranney; a brother, David Cranney and two stepsisters, Julia Fitzgerald and Mae Katilius.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect, is in charge of arrangements.
