Hazardous waste to be collected

BEACON FALLS — Area residents can dispose of household hazardous waste and paint during a collection April 23.

The collection is at Beacon Hose Company No. 1, 35 North Main St., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The collection is open to residents of Beacon Falls, Naugatuck, Bethlehem, Middlebury, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown and Woodbury. There is no charge to residents, and proof of residency is required. Up to 50 pounds of waste will be accepted per vehicle.

Household hazardous wastes that will be collected include, thermometers and thermostats containing mercury, cleaners, pool and photo chemicals, grease and rust solvents, aerosols, and metal polishes.

Items that will not be accepted include, auto batteries, motor oil, asbestos, explosives, medical waste and empty fire extinguishers.
