The Connecticut Community Foundation’s annual online giving challenge kicks off Tuesday.

Give Local Greater Waterbury & Litchfield Hills is a 36-hour online community giving challenge to support nonprofit organizations within the foundation’s 21-town service area, which includes Beacon Falls, Naugatuck and Prospect. The challenge runs from 7 a.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Over 200 nonprofit organizations have registered for the challenge, including many local organizations.

Among the local organizations participating is the Friends of Beacon Falls Library. Funds donated to the Friends during the challenge have been designated to help fund additional “STEAM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) at the library, a press release stated.

“We need to encourage innovation and creativity in our children’s lives,” Beacon Falls Library Director Sue Dowdell said in the release.

Donations can be made during the challenge online at www.GiveLocalCCF.org. All donations will be enhanced by more than $120,000 in bonus funds. In addition, nonprofits will be eligible for over $50,000 in cash prizes.
