BEACON FALLS — Three people were taken to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries following a two-car accident at the corner of South Main Street and Bethany Road Sunday night.

The accident happened just after 8 p.m. when a Mitsubishi Gallant driven by Ryan Klies, 23, of Waterbury, drove toward the intersection at a high rate of speed, swerved into the left lane and ran a red light without stopping, according to a police report.

The car struck a Toyota Prius driven by Jacalyn Bachelor of Bethany. Airbags deployed in both vehicles and volunteer firefighters from Beacon Falls had to help get people out of the cars.

In the Mitsubishi, front seat passenger Martin Corbett, 16, was injured, as was Klies. Back seat passenger Joshua Bermudez, 22, of Waterbury, was not injured, the report said.

All three injured people were treated and released from hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
