PROSPECT — There have been two bear sightings in town over the past couple of weeks, according to police.
Police reported on the department’s Facebook page that a bear was seen in the neighborhood of Candee Road Monday night. The bear went to bird feeders in the neighborhood, police said. A bear sighting was also reported last week near Talmadge Hill Road and New Haven Road, police said.
Police reported that officials with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said the bear population in Connecticut has greatly increased over the past few years. Police said they will only respond to a bear sighting if the bear is actively causing damage or is threatening.
