NAUGATUCK — Police tracked down and charged a suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault Monday with the public’s help.
Matthew DelBuono, 18, of Wolcott, was charged Monday with third-degree sexual assault and illegal sexual contact with a minor after Naugatuck detectives located him in Waterbury.
Due to the nature of the charges and the age of the victim, police were unable to release details of the case. Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said the alleged assault occurred in Naugatuck last week. The victim was a teenage girl who was significantly younger than DelBuono, he said.
Police had been searching for DelBuono and put out a request for help on Sunday to locate him through social media and media outlets. Cammarata said within a few hours police received a good tip that led to his whereabouts.
DelBuono was held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court on Tuesday.
