PROSPECT — Verne H. “Chip” Aldrich, Jr., age 58, of Prospect, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Sharon (Steeves) Aldrich.

Chip was born Sept. 5, 1957 in Bridgeport, son of Lorraine (Donahoe) Aldrich of Shelton and the late Verne H. Aldrich, Sr. Having a gift of helping students with all types of disabilities, he worked as a special education teacher at Naugatuck High School and within the Naugatuck school system for over two decades.

Chip was a truly loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He enthusiastically participated in both of his sons’ activities, especially sports, whether it was as a parent or a coach. He served as a coach with the Naugatuck Little League and Little Pal programs, the Naugatuck and Prospect soccer leagues and the girls basketball team at City Hill Middle School. He was also actively involved in his community, having volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, the Connecticut Special Olympics, and tutored students outside of school. He was also an assistant scoutmaster for Prospect Boy Scouts Troop 258. He and his wife were very involved in Maple Hill Elementary and Long River Middle School’s P.T.O. He enjoyed walking the family dog, Ruby, frequent trips to Dunkin Donuts, and being a man of many laughs, both giving and receiving them. His greatest joy was achieved by spending time with his family, whether that was throwing a football with his sons, attending Red Sox games, or going on family vacations. Chip took great pride in working around his house and gardens. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect.

In addition to his wife and mother, Chip is survived by two sons, Douglas and Gregory Aldrich of Prospect; three sisters, Adele Falco of Shelton, Gretchen Aldrich of Shelton, and Stephanie Young and her husband Huey of Prospect; a sister-in-law, Maryann Conte of Deltona, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect, on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, Prospect.
