PROSPECT — Doris (Theroux) Lewis, 85, of Prospect, wife of Eugene R. Lewis, passed on March 26, 2016, surrounded by family at home after a long illness. Doris was born in Waterbury on Jan 30, 1931, to Maurice and Josephine (Chouinard) Theroux.

Doris graduated from Wilby High School, class of ‘49 and was married to Eugene at St. Anthony’s RC church in Prospect on Dec. 27, 1952. Doris and Gene raised their five children in Prospect. Together they founded Lewis Construction Co. and Foam Plastics of New England, both Prospect businesses, where Doris served as a director for many years.

In addition to her love of reading, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and playing piano. Her greatest joys involved sharing her passion for learning, values, curiosity, and respect for nature with her grandchildren. Nothing went to waste as evidenced by the remarkable abundance of wildlife that enjoyed her hospitality and “table-to-nature” philosophy. Renowned for her cautious driving, she could ignite the passions of the 2- to 3-mile line of followers she often accumulated between Oliver’s Supermarket and home.

In addition to her husband Doris is survived by her five children, Claudia Guynn and husband Bob, of Prospect, David Lewis and wife Nancy, of Bethlehem, Jennifer Lewis of Prospect, Melissa Tweedie and husband Mark, of Manchester, and Rose Dufour of Branford. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Brandon Dufour and wife Teresa, Evan and Alyse Dufour, Samantha and Brian Tweedie, Sarah and Rachel Lewis, Emily Guynn; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca Guynn Carroll and Bethany Guynn Ty; one great-grandchild, Dante Dufour, and nieces/nephew Rebecca, Jessica, and Mathew Thayer. Survivors also include Doris’ siblings, Bob Theroux and wife Gail, George Theroux and wife Nancy. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Theroux.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bechoi Saleib, VITAS Heathcare, and all the friends and neighbors who have offered their love and support over the years.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 31, at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, in Prospect from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, April 1 at St. Anthony’s RC Church in Prospect.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Prospect Library, or, alternatively, Prospect food/fuel funds.
