NAUGATUCK — Charles Richard Forish, Sr., 88, husband of Harriet (Spring) Forish, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He would have turned age 89 on March 13.

Mr. Forish was born in Naugatuck, on March 13, 1927, son of the late George and Mary (Fuska) Forish. A lifetime Naugatuck resident, his first job was as a paperboy, where he covered many miles delivering papers. As a child, Charlie was written about in the newspaper for saving someone that fell through the ice at the New Dam on Melbourne Street.

Mr. Forish proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on several ships but mostly on the Mine Sweeper YMS-302. The ship mission was to lead the way to insure convoys were safe when entering inlets. After the war, he began working at Uniroyal Chemical, and moved on to the Uniroyal Warehouse division where he became a manager at the Naugatuck and Beacon Falls warehouses. He retired from Uniroyal with over 40 years of service.

After retirement, Charlie worked for Kombie Glove Company, and then as grounds keeper at the Waterbury Country Club. Always an active person, his passion was his yard, his garden, and the Boston Redsox. His tomatoes were the envy of all, and he maintained his house meticulously. He enjoyed spending time with his son, grandchildren and his wife Harriet. Charlie was always generous in helping his family to become successful. He loved to help with family homeimprovement projects such as painting and gardening.

Besides his wife of 65 years, he leaves his son Charles Forish, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Naugatuck; his grandsons, John Forish of Naugatuck, and Charles Forish, III and his wife Crystal of Waterbury; and his great-grandchild Sloan of Naugatuck. He also leaves his sister, Mary Wasula of Naugatuck, several nieces and nephews, and his buddy Tommy the cat.
