NAUGATUCK — With the Easter season approaching, the Ecumenical Food Bank of Naugatuck is in need of help.

The food bank’s stock is depleting faster as the number of families that require assistance has steadily grown. According to Marty-Lee Fenton, president of the food bank, 707 families were served last year, which included 231 new families, an increase of 15 percent from the previous year. The food bank gave out 15,814 bags of food last year, which provided 110,880 meals, she said.

The food bank, which serves families in Naugatuck and Beacon Falls, is asking for the public’s help to replenish its shelves. The food bank is seeking food or monetary donations. Donations can be dropped off at the food bank, 75 Spring St., on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m., or on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monetary donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 796, Naugatuck, CT 06770. For more information, call 203-723-1922.

“From the board of directors and volunteers of the Ecumenical Food Bank, thank you so very much for your past support,” Fenton stated in a prepared statement. “With the Easter season approaching, please help your fellow neighbor with a donation of food or money so the needs of the Naugatuck and Beacon Falls communities can continue to be met to those not as fortunate.”
