MIDDLEBURY — Matthew Sadlowski, 77, husband of Virginia (Majewska) Sadlowski, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS Unit surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Sadlowski was born on Dec. 18, 1938 in Krsza, Poland, son of the late Edmont and Czestawa (Stahelek) Sadlowski. A longtime Middlebury resident, he retired from Risdon Manufacturing after 42 years of service. Matthew was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church. He enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, vegetable gardening, and especially spending time with his family.

Besides his wife of 57 years, he leaves his daughters, Eugenia Thomas and her partner John O’Neil of Bethel, Janina Lyons and her husband Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Karen Meixner and her husband Uly of Marshfield, Mass.; his sister Helen Sadlowska Bystry of Poland; his granddaughter Alexis Spence and her husband Randy of Phoenix, Ariz.; and his great-granddaughter Melissa Spence.

His funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Hedwig Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
