NAUGATUCK — A false burglary report led to the discovery of marijuana in a Naugatuck apartment and the subsequent arrests of a couple.

Luis Delvalle, 28, and Valeria Milomes, 29, both of 933 Rubber Ave. Unit B, were arrested on warrants Wednesday as a result of an investigation that began with a report of a burglary.

Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said Milomes called police on Christmas at about 10:15 p.m. to report a burglary. Milomes told police when she arrived home the door was cracked and she heard noises in the apartment, he said. She also told police that she saw two people run out of the apartment wearing hooded sweatshirts, he said.

The burglary report turned out to be made up, Cammarata said. The false report was made as part of a domestic dispute between Delvalle and Milomes, he said. However, when officers arrived to investigate the report they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from a closet on the first floor. Police found 32.8 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, packaging material and other paraphernalia in the home, Cammarata said.

Delvalle and Milomes were each charged with possession of marijuana and three counts of risk of injury to child. Three children live in the apartment, Cammarata said. The Department of Children and Families was contacted as part of the investigation, he said.

Delvalle was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court Thursday and held on a court-set $35,000 surety bond.

Milomes was additionally charged with making a false statement in the second degree and second-degree falsely reporting an incident. She was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court Thursday and released on a court-set $25,000 surety bond.
