NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Parent School Council is hoping to showcase some of the borough’s best attributes.

The council will host its first Naugatuck Community Showcase from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 20 at City Hill Middle School.

Jen Stone, a member of the council, said the idea behind the event is to bring together borough businesses, services, clubs and organizations in one place to show people what is in town they may not know is here.

“We wanted to display what Naugatuck has to offer the community,” Stone said. “So, instead of going outside of Naugatuck to find a certain thing, we wanted to show people what we have here in town to take advantage of.”

The council, which is a nonprofit organization that works in collaboration with the Naugatuck Parent Teacher Organization, came up with the idea for the showcase over the summer, Stone said.

“We were talking about opportunities for bringing more people out into the community,” Stone said. “We always have people that say ‘I didn’t know this was happening,’ or ‘I went out of Naugatuck when this was here in town.’”

Stone, who is hoping to make the showcase an annual event, said a lot of people rely on getting information off the internet, but may not find when local events are taking place. With the showcase, she hopes to bring the information directly to the people.

“Everybody relies on their phone to tell them what’s happening. If they come to this they may have an opportunity to meet and get to know the people who run [Peter J. Foley Little League] and know when they will have the opportunity to sign up for baseball,” Stone said.

The event is open to the families of Naugatuck. Admission is free, and everyone who attends will be entered into a raffle for door prizes. Naugatuck High School clubs and organizations will be selling food and beverages.

The council is also looking for donations for door prizes.

As of Monday, the event had 35 participants, Stone said. However, she is hoping that even more people will sign up in the coming week. The cost for an 8-foot space, if people provide their own tables, is $20, or $25 if the council provides the table.

Anyone interested in reserving a spot should contact Stone at (203) 232-3876 or jstone624@sbcglobal.net by Feb. 13 to ensure a spot.

  1. It’s starts with the town officials finding a spot to rest the Goodwill donation trailer.
If this simple act of kindness can’t occur, how else would they care about individuals and their basic needs.
