WATERBURY — A 24-year-old Naugatuck man was sentenced to six years in prison Jan. 29 for sexual abuse of two underage girls, but was almost held in contempt after telling a superior court judge “karma is a (expletive).”

Christopher DePallo had been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, but the charges were reduced to two counts of risk of injury to a minor as part of a plea deal.

He will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years because he pleaded guilty to a specific subsection of the crime that’s levied when sexual contact is perpetrated on a minor.

Those convictions stem from sexual intercourse DePallo had with two girls, who were 12 and 13 years old at the time.

After a statement from one of the girls that expressed the fear she now has of older men was read in Waterbury Superior Court, Depallo was asked if he had anything to say.

“What comes around, goes around,” he said.

After proclaiming he was “out,” marshals led a handcuffed Depallo back to a table when Judge Roland Fasano asked him what he had said.

State’s Attorney Maureen Platt said it appeared Depallo’s comments were a veiled threat toward the girl. DePallo apologized after Fasano threatened him with contempt of court, saying he was sorry “from the bottom of my heart.”

Depallo will have to serve 10 years of special parole after he’s released from prison.
