School to open as usual on Monday

BEACON FALLS — Woodland Regional High School will be open Monday after closing for two days this week due to a water issue.

The pump house at the school flooded on Wednesday after a sprinkler head broke. The flooding caused the drive that activates the main water pump that feeds water to the school to burn out, leaving the school without water.

The school was closed Thursday and Friday as officials waited for new parts to arrive and repairs to be made. Region 16 Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin said the repairs were made Friday and everything is all set for the school to get back in session on Monday.

All other schools in Region 16, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, were open as normal Thursday and Friday. Yamin said it’s likely that the two days high school students missed will be made up at the end of the school year.

Yamin didn’t have an exact cost for the repairs when reached Friday, but said it was less than $10,000.
