NAUGATUCK — Vera Magas, 91, the widow of Leo Magas, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 in the VITAS Innovative Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Vera was born on Jan. 18, 1924 in Naugatuck, a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Domenica (Vaccarelli) Mengacci and was a former employee of Peter Paul.

She and her husband moved to Singer Island, Fla., in 1979 and resided there until returning to Connecticut in 1996.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Gayle Giovanelli and her husband, Al Giovanelli; her granddaughters, Leighanne Hartshorn and her husband, Robert Hartshorn, and Sara Giovanelli; her great-grandchildren, Emma and Brandon Hartshorn; her brother, Dino Mengacci; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Leo, Vera was predeceased by her sisters, Erma Casini and Mary Oris, and her brothers, Adam Mengacci and Raymond Mengacci.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
