BEACON FALLS — Mrs. Marilyn Norma (Carlson) Vought, 76, of Beacon Falls, passed away late Thursday evening Jan. 6, 2016 at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of the Rev. Gordon R. Vought.

Marilyn was born in Waterbury, March 5, 1939, the daughter of the late Clarence G. and Freda (Cederholm) Carlson. She grew up in Beacon Falls and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School, Class of 1956. She attended North Park College in Chicago, Ill., and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. degree in education, majoring in English and history. She married Gordon on June 21, 1958 and they had two sons.

Mrs. Vought taught in public schools in Connecticut and Maine and had served as Christian education director at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston and taught numerous Sunday school classes and Bible studies over the years in the many churches she and her husband had served. She treasured the countless friends and family members who filled her life with joy, valuing relationships above all else.

She leaves in addition to her husband of 57 and a half years, Gordon; two sons, Rev. Richard C. Vought (Ruth) of Orleans, Mass. and Dr. Hans P. Vought (Debra) of Saugerties, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Alderson–Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., is assisting the family with the arrangements.
