NAUGATUCK — A tree worker was killed Wednesday afternoon while working in the upper parking lot at Naugatuck High School.

Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said the man, whose name wasn’t released as of this post, was crushed when he was pinned in the mini excavator he was using at about 1:25 p.m. in the lot off of Millville Avenue.

Cammarata said the man was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

No high school students or staff were involved in the accident, Cammarata said.

The man was working for the Naugatuck-based Valley Tree Landscaping Services, which was subcontracted for tree removal services. Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the circumstances that led up to the accident.

No further details were available as of this post.
