NAUGATUCK — Elizabeth N. “Betty” Carson, 94, the widow of F. William Carson, passed away peacefully, Dec. 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Carson was born on July 23, 1921 in Woolford, Md., a daughter of the late William A. and Eveleyn W. (Neild) Thomas and had been a Naugatuck resident for the past 48 years. Mrs. Carson earned a bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University where she met her husband Bill.
Upon her husband’s retirement, Betty felt a calling to enter the workforce as a realtor. For 20 years she built a successful career serving clients throughout the area. During her real estate career she was associated with the offices of Root & Boyd, William Raveis and most recently Joyce S. Drakeley Real Estate in Woodbury.

A voracious reader, Betty was well known at the Howard Whittemore Memorial and Middlebury Public libraries. She was a member of The Women’s Study Club of Naugatuck since 1971 having served as president from 1975 to 1977.

Mrs. Carson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William and Barbara Carson of Carmel, Ind., and James and Terri Carson of Naugatuck; and five grandsons of whom she was very proud, Robert of Indianapolis, Ind.; Benjamin and his wife Ashley and great-granddaughter Charlie of La Porte; Ind., Timothy and his wife Ashlee and great-granddaughter Hollis of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ryan of Naugatuck and Michael of Stamford. She was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Jane of South Bend, Ind.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 210 Church St., Naugatuck. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library, 243 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770; or to the Naugatuck Y.M.C.A., 284 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770.
