NAUGATUCK — Carol J. (Rykowski) Mason, 79, widow of George P. Mason, passed away peacefully at her home with her family on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015.

Mrs. Mason was born in Waterbury, on May 24, 1936, daughter of the late Benjamin and Irene (Rozanski) Rykowski. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and was a longtime Naugatuck resident. Carol was a founding member of St. Vincent Ferrer Church and a member of the parish Ladies Guild. On March 9, 2009, she and her late husband received the St. Vincent Stewardship Award for outstanding service to the parish. She was an active member of the Naugatuck Senior Center, and she enjoyed painting, gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children, George D. Mason and his wife the Honorable Jeanne LaFazia of Little Compton, R.I., Michael B. Mason and his wife Nora of Naugatuck, and Carolyn Losure and her companion Art of Bethlehem; her seven grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Seth, and Caroline Losure of Bethlehem; Zach, Sam, and Ben Mason of Naugatuck; and several nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her brother Ronald Rykowski of Hemet, Calif.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
