BEACON FALLS — A 23-year-old Waterbury woman was ejected from the Honda Civic she was driving on Route 8 south Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

Lenee M. Schiavo was driving around a dangerous curve — known locally as “the S curve” because of its shape — between exits 24 and 25. At 1:19 p.m., she somehow lost control of the car and veered off the right side of the rain-soaked road, Fire Chief Jim Trzaski said.

According to police the car rolled multiple times.

It appears Schiavo was ejected out of the driver’s side window and was not wearing a seat belt, said witnesses who responded and tried to help before calling 911. Schiavo was conscious and alert and had what appeared to be significant injuries that were not life-threatening, Trzaski said.

A paramedic and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene. They took her to Waterbury Hospital, where a trauma unit was waiting. The extent of her injuries could not immediately be confirmed.

Nobody else was in the Civic and no other cars were involved. The accident caused traffic delays for more than an hour.

Trzaski said the area where the incident occurred is known to have many car accidents. He said firefighters are dispatched to the area about once a week for accidents. He cautions people to drive slowly around the curve and be cautious.
