BEACON FALLS — State police detectives are investigating a drowning that occurred Friday afternoon.

John Kautzner, 47, was found in a brook behind his home at 317 Burton Road at about 4:35 p.m. Medical responders pronounced him dead after attempting to resuscitate him.

The drowning is considered “suspicious,” but there is no evidence of a crime, state police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene and will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the cause and manner of death.

Kautzner was featured in a Dec. 24, 2007 story in the Republican-American with the headline, “Beacon Falls family gets special holiday greeting.”

A staff sergeant in the Air Force, Kautzner, then 39, was stationed in South Korea. He hadn’t seen his parents in two years, so he sent them a video holiday message through Comcast’s “Troop Greetings On Demand” service.
