SEYMOUR — Richard “Dick” Kisson, 77, of Seymour, died Friday, Nov. 13 at Griffin Hospital after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born in Derby on April 29, 1938, son of the late Samuel and Anastasia (Gowcheck) Kisson, both of Seymour. A graduate of Seymour High School, he served in the United States Army Reserve and saw active duty. Dick was retired from the Seymour Public Works Department.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Dorothy, survivors include his children, Nancy Kisson Pelletier, Virginia “Ginny” Duke and her husband David, Richard “Sam” Kisson and his wife Rachel, and Adrienne Kisson; siblings, Virginia Kisson, Barbara Busillo, and Lawrence “Gary” Kisson; grandchildren Adam and Anastasia Duke, Nina Pelletier, and soon-to-be baby Kisson; and best coffee buddy James “Mac” McNamara. He was predeceased by sisters, Florence Kisson and Vivian Haskedakes.

Dick was a board member of the Seymour Land Trust and spent many hours creating nature trails with his friend Mac. He was also recognized by former Attorney General, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, for preserving the historic footbridge over the railroad tracks on Main Street. The bridge is now named Kisson’s Crossing in his honor.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 at from 4 until 7 p.m. in the chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour.

A Memorial Service in Celebration of Richard’s Life will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Father Patrick Burns, pastor of Three Saints Orthodox Church of Ansonia, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by Emil Senger Post 10 American Legion of Seymour.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Richard’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or through the funeral home.
