BEACON FALLS — Carmen Rivera passed away peacefully at home with her loved ones by her side on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015. Carmen was lovingly known as Carmita and was the widow of Louis Rivera.

She was born on July 20, 1923 in the town of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to the late John Moreno and Maria Hernandez.

Carmen was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Despite a humble and difficult beginning in life, she enjoyed a full and happy life. At the age of 23, she married her childhood sweetheart and they were happily married for 52 wonderful years. Their marriage produced two daughters, Betty and Carmen, whom they cherished and loved so much.

Carmita was an outstanding example of love, kindness and humility, and a woman of great faith and devotion. She was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had been an active member for the past 37 years right to the end of her life. She found much joy in her service to her Creator Jehovah and in His creation. She now awaits Jehovah’s promise of the resurrection hope here on Earth.

For all those who knew her, Carmita enjoyed dancing and music, and when asked to sing, she could sing as beautiful as a songbird. Carmita taught us every day by the way she led her life that you didn’t need the highest education to show intelligence nor a lot of things to make the most of your life. Her common sense, generosity, love of life, devotion to family, and her God was proof of that.

Carmen Rivera is survived by her two daughters, Betty Perez and her husband Miguel of Woodbridge, and Carmen Hutchinson and her husband Brian of Beacon Falls. Carmen had five grandchildren; Miguel Jr., Tinamarie, Yvonne, Pablo and Christine; six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Brandon, Desi, Derek, Lila and Catalina; siblings, Jose Hernandez and Marta Hernandez, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Moncho, Hermino, Niciaso, Raymond, Marie and Eugenia.

Calling hours will take place on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
