BEACON FALLS — Though much of the Election Day slate in Beacon Falls was unopposed, there was some drama provided by the race for Region 16 Board of Education.
Longtime incumbent Priscilla Cretella, an Independent who ran on the Democratic ticket, and Democrat incumbent David Rybinski were re-elected to the school board, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, after holding off a challenge from Republican Douglas Bousquet.
According to unofficial numbers, Rybinski and Cretella received 701 and 659 votes, respectively. Bousquet received 495 votes.
The top of the ticket was unopposed Tuesday.
First Selectman Chris Bielik, a Democrat, was re-elected to a second term. Selectman candidates Democrat incumbent Peter Betkoski and Republican Mike Krenesky, who previously served two terms on the board, were also unopposed.
The only other contested races were for Zoning Board of Appeals and Library Trustees. Each race featured three candidates for two seats.
Democrats Tony Smith and Robert Doiron earned seats on the Zoning Board of Appeals over Bousquet.
Democrats Barbara Betkoski and Darlene Ragozzine were elected over Republican Randi Bellemare as Library Trustees.
