Association to honor alumni for patriotism

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck High School Alumni Association will honor six alumni with the Robert L. Genovese Patriotism Award.

The award is given to Naugatuck High alumni for their devotion and service to their country in the military and the Borough of Naugatuck. This year’s honorees are: Philip A. Arcuri (U.S. Navy), Frank D. Edmonds, Jr. (U.S. Air Force), Robert W. Evon, Sr. (U.S. Army), Thomas H. Fitzgerald, Jr. (U.S. Army), Charles P. Marenghi (U.S. Army), and Richard G. Smith (U.S. Army).

The award is named after Robert L. Genovese, a member of the NHS Class of 1960 and Vietnam War veteran. Genovese, a U.S. Air Force veteran, has been a veterans’ advocate for over 40 years and is a member of the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.

The awards will be presented during the association’s annual flag ceremony and presentation Nov. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Francis Church hall at 318 Church St. A luncheon will follow the ceremony. Tickets for the luncheon are $10 per adult and $5 for children 12 years old and under. Proceeds benefit the association.
