MIDDLEFIELD — Dr. John Edward Kelleher, 76, the husband of Kathy L. (Dean) Kelleher, died peacefully on Thursday, Oct, 8, 2015 at Mid State Medical Center in Meriden.

Dr. Kelleher was born on Feb. 3, 1939 in New Haven, a son of the late John Edward Kelleher, Sr., and Julia (Bovie) Kelleher. Dr. Kelleher graduated from Hamden High School, Fairfield University and the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Kelleher was a well-known medical doctor who was in private practice for many years and was also a former medical director for the U.S. Navy, Waterbury Hospital and Masonicare. He was also formerly the departmental director of psychiatry at the Institute of Living. Dr. Kelleher was a U.S. Navy veteran and had lived in Middlefield for the past 14 years.

A loved and respected family member, in addition to Kathy, his wife of 35 years, Dr. Kelleher leaves his sons, John Paul Kelleher of N.Y., and Matthew Thomas Kelleher of Thailand; his daughter, Julia Marie Simeone of Wallingford; his brother, Thomas Kelleher of San Francisco, Calif.; his sister, Sheila Gibbons of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Leah and Emily Simeone and the Matthew Kelleher grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Roxie McElroy of Southington and several close nieces, nephews and cousins in the New Haven area.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Middlefield Federated Church, 402 Main St., Middlefield. Burial with military honors will follow in Middlefield Cemetery, Middlefield. Calling hours are Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
