NAUGATUCK — Applications for special land classification for preservation of farm, forest or open space can be filed with the Assessor’s Office through Nov. 2.

A property owner whose livelihood is derived from a farming operation is entitled to a tax exemption of up to $100,000 worth of machinery plus all livestock and poultry.

An owner requesting that land be designated as forest land must file and attach a copy of the Certified Forester’s report with the application for forest land classification.

An owner requesting that land be designated as open space must first have received approval of such classification from the municipality. The property owner must then apply to the assessor within 30 days after.
