NAUGATUCK — Eileen Agnes (Goggin) Russo, 85, the beloved wife of the late Edward Russo, passed into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015 at home surrounded by her family.

Eileen was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in Waterbury, a daughter of the late William Goggin and Agnes (Denihan) Goggin, and lived her whole life in Union City and Naugatuck. She spent the last eight years living in the home of her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Bob, where Mary provided the tender loving care that brought great comfort to her mom. Eileen attended local schools and graduated from Naugatuck High School as part of the famous “Class of ‘47,” which still meets to this day. Eileen and her husband, Ed, were married for 56 years. In her lifetime, Eileen worked for the Telephone Company, for Melbourne’s Florist and The Humbug Shop. But the greatest “job” she ever had was having seven children and along with her husband, Eddy, raising them up and loving them all along the way. A constant source of joy for Eileen was seeing and being around young life. She was blessed to have 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly, whose visits, phone calls and facetimes brightened her day.

Eileen is survived by her seven children, Susan Russo, Ned Russo and his wife, Tonya, of Sarasota, Fla.; Billy Russo and his wife, Trudy, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Robert Russo and his wife, Marybeth, of Waterbury; Mary Butkus and her husband, Bob, of Naugatuck, Eileen Russo, John Russo and his wife, Kathleen, of Sarasota, Fla. Grandchildren include, Bob Butkus and his wife, Nicole, Jen Sefick and her husband, Kyle, Joshua Russo and his wife, Julie, Jonathan Russo and his wife, Ashley, Sarah Fox and her husband, Justin, Seth, Rachel and Rebekah Russo, Nick and Joe Whitney; Taylor, Hannah, Matt, Renee and Ryan Russo. Great-grandchildren include, Shane and Holden Fox, Sophia Butkus, Leena Sefick, and a fifth great-grandchild on the way. Also, a special sister, Eleanor Buck and her husband, Carl, Sarasota, Fla.; her closest cousin, Shirley San Angelo and her husband, Frank, of Naugatuck, along with several nieces and nephews whom she loved and cherished. Eileen was predeceased by two brothers, Bill Goggin and his wife, Phyllis, John Goggin and his wife, Florence.

A funeral service celebrating Eileen’s life will take place on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
