New cadets sought for youth group

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Police Cadets organization wants to recruit new members.

The organization accepts young males and females between 13 and 21. The group, which is affiliated with the Naugatuck Police Department, says it is open to people who are interested in a career in law enforcement, are loyal, responsible, responsible and trustworthy.

The cadets participate in several community events, including signing people up for free child identification programs, assisting police with traffic and parking at Naugatuck High School graduation and the July 4 fireworks, marching in the Memorial Day parade and assisting the police union’s annual toy drive. Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Educational Association, Inc., which insures each Cadet, hosts SWAT-style challenges, visits to police stations and runs a week long Cadet Academy.

The Naugatuck Police Cadets meet every Thursday at the Naugatuck Police Department, 211 Spring St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Anyone interested is encouraged to stop in.
